TGEAPCET allotment records contain several codes describing the reservation category, seat type, gender reservation and regional status under which a seat was allotted. Understanding these codes is essential when comparing opening and closing ranks across engineering colleges and courses in Telangana.
What Does “Seat Category” Mean?
The Seat Category identifies the quota or reservation group under which a particular seat was allotted. It is not merely a description of the candidate's personal caste or gender.
For example:
BC_A_GEN_OU
This code can be read as:
- BC_A — BC-A reservation category
- GEN — General seat within that category
- OU — Osmania University local area
A candidate's caste and sex are shown separately in the official allotment record. The Seat Category tells us how the seat itself was allotted.
General Seats and Girls-Reserved Seats
One of the most misunderstood parts of engineering admission rank statements is the difference between General and Girls.

Why Older Rank Statements Use “Boys”
Some earlier TGEAPCET Last Rank Statements displayed columns such as OC Boys, BC-A Boys and ST Boys. These labels were used in the published rank-report format.
The underlying allotment data, however, uses GEN for the general seat pool. Because women may also receive GEN seats on merit, this directory uses the technically clearer label General for 2026 allotment data.

Main Social Reservation Codes
The following category prefixes may appear in TGEAPCET allotment records:

Each social category may be followed by GEN or GIRLS, depending on the seat pool under which the allotment was made.
Minority Seat Categories
Minority institutions may contain seat categories such as:
- MUS_GEN — Muslim Minority, General
- MUS_GIRLS — Muslim Minority, Girls
- CHR_GEN — Christian Minority, General
- CHR_GIRLS — Christian Minority, Girls
A Girls category is displayed only when that category actually appears in the official allotment records for the selected college, course and counselling phase.
For example, if a course contains only:
MUS_GEN_OU MUS_GEN_UR
the directory displays Muslim Minority – General. It does not create a separate Muslim Girls rank merely because some of the candidates allotted under MUS_GEN happen to be female.
TGEAPCET states that candidates may exercise options for minority institutions, while allotment to non-minority candidates remains subject to seat availability after the concerned minority candidates have been exhausted.
Regional Codes: OU and UR

The directory combines OU and UR records belonging to the same principal seat category when displaying its overall opening and closing ranks. The original regional code remains available in the source allotment data.
Special Reservation Codes
Official allotment data may also contain special reservation categories, including:
- CAP — Children of Armed Forces Personnel category
- PH* — Persons with Disabilities subcategories shown through codes such as PHA, PHH, PHM, PHO and PHV
These special-quota allotments are maintained separately and are not merged into the ordinary category closing ranks. Combining them with regular GEN or GIRLS records could produce a misleading cut-off figure.
How Opening and Closing Ranks Are Calculated
For each college, course, counselling phase and displayed seat category:
- Opening Rank is the lowest numerical rank allotted under that category.
- Closing Rank is the highest numerical rank allotted under that category.
- Candidate Count is the number of official allotment records included in that category summary.
A lower numerical rank represents a higher position in the entrance examination merit list.
Why Rank Categories May Differ Between 2025 and 2026
The 2025 rank display was based mainly on the official published Last Rank Statements, which used labels such as Boys and Girls. Some minority-college figures for 2025 were compiled from reputable external educational sources because they were not included in the official category-wise Last Rank Statements.
For 2026, the directory uses candidate-level allotment records obtained from the official TGEAPCET allotment system. The 2026 rank summaries therefore follow the official Seat Category codes, including GEN, GIRLS, OU and UR.
Official Rules Take Priority
Reservation rules, local-area provisions, eligibility conditions, seat availability and counselling procedures are governed by the current notifications, government orders and instructions issued by TGCHE and the TGEAPCET counselling authority.
Students should use this directory for research and comparison, but should verify eligibility and counselling decisions through the official TGEAPCET website before exercising web options.
